General FAQs

Why are ASHS journals on different sites?

ASHS transitioned from one platform host to another in early 2019. Our new platform vendor offers a state-of-the-art user experience that enables us to showcase our publications and provide you, our users, with increased functionality and a modern look and feel to our web presence.

Beginning 2019, HortTechnology became an Open Access journal on Sheridan PubFactory, our new platform host. All articles published from January 1, 2019 onwards, are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International LicenseCreate Commons license. All content published prior to January 1, 2019, are free though terms of use are defined by applicable copyright laws which must be adhered.

Our other publications, Journal of the ASHS and HortScience are also currently available on the new platform but require a subscription through December 31, 2019.  As of January 1, 2020, the Journal of ASHS and HortScience will become Open Access journals  Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International LicenseCreate Commons license. All content published prior to January 1, 2020, are free though terms of use are defined by applicable copyright laws which must be adhered.

How do members and Individual subscribers access their subscriptions to ASHS journals?

If you are an existing ASHS member, or have purchased an individual subscription to one of our journals, we recently forwarded you an email with instructions for accessing this site. If you did not receive or cannot find out email but know your username from our old site, please go to Login and select the Forgot Your Password?. Enter your username and follow the onscreen prompts.

The ASHS platform uses color coded padlocks to denote if a given article is available:

  • Green: indicates user-accessible content; content that you/your institution have access to. This could include content which is free or has been made available temporarily for promotional purposes.
  • Yellow: indicates Open Access content. Please review the Creative Commons license agreements assigned to these articles.
  • Red: indicates restricted access; you do not have access to this content.

If you are still not able to log into the site, or if you have forgotten your username, please email us at: or contact us at the address below:

In what formats is ASHS journal content available online?

Subscribers may access the full text HTML and inline PDF journal content on our new Online platform. We also offer the option to download the PDF version of all articles.

What will happen to all my bookmarks from the old site. Will they still work?

Rest assured, your bookmarks will continue to work. As part of our migration we are putting in place URL redirects that direct from our old website to our new platform. We encourage you to update your bookmarks to the new journal pages on the ASHS website to optimize your user experience.

How do I receive alerts about new content?

You can receive table of contents alerts and notification of new articles on the various journal homepages as well as being able to access the journal’s RSS feed. See below for the direct links to all three ASHS publications.

Article citation alerts are accessible for individual articles.

To edit your alerts, please log in to your account, navigate to “My ASHS” and then “My alerts”.

Help with the Annotation tool

You are able to add annotations to journal articles as you read them. Highlight the text to add comments. These comments are accessible via your account, “My ASHS” once you are logged into the site.
