Abstract
The assigned title suggests the enumeration of specific research needs in the area of postharvest horticulture. I question my qualifications to summarize such information so that it would prove interesting and meaningful. Instead I will use a couple of research areas in postharvest horticulture to point up the kind of relationship I would like to see exist between tax-supported horticultural research institutions and industry management.

Abstract
The opportunity of participating in this program is certainly a challenge. Although I am not an expert in the field of education or personnel relations, I believe that I do know something about the kind of people we need to successfully operate a fruit and vegetable processing business.
