Select clones of lowbush blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium Ait.) are propagated vegetatively from stem or rhizome cuttings, but this method permits only a slow increase in the number of desired plants. A rapid in vitro propagation system would reduce the time required to build up stocks of superior material. In an attempt to develop such a system, the ability of various lowbush blueberry tissues to form shoots in vitro is being studied. This paper reports on de novo shoot formation in cultured seedling explants.
