Abstract
Single applications of 250 or 500 ppm (2-chloroethyl)phosphonic acid (ethephon) and 250 or 500 ppm 7-oxabicyclo (2,2,1) heptane-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (endothall) along with 5 or 10 ppm of [3-(2-[3,5-dimethyl-2-oxocyclohexyl]-2hydroxyethyl)-glutarimide (cycloheximide) provided the greatest defoliation on 1-year old ‘Delicious’, ‘Winesap’, and ‘Hopa’ apples (Malus spp.) and 1-year seedlings of apple and Pyrus calleryana Decne. These combinations caused high shoot and bud damage to certain cultivars which would not make them suitable for nursery utilization. The addition of endothall significantly increased defoliation.
