A native of Utah, Wittwer holds degrees in horticulture from Utah State Univ. and Univ. of Missouri. He is a renowned educator, researcher, and administrator. Wittwer pioneered the uses of radioisotopes and bioregulants in agriculture. He is the author of more than 600 scientific papers and is an authority on agricultural technology. In recent years, he has contributed generous efforts in formulating policy and direction for funding of U.S. agriculture and our scientific enterprise. Wittwer was elected an ASHS Fellow in 1968.
