PollyO is a new hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) cultivar for the blanched kernel market. It was released by the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station in Jan. 2018 as a complement to ‘McDonald’ and ‘Wepster’, and an alternative to ‘Yamhill’. It combines a high level of resistance to eastern filbert blight (EFB) caused by the fungus Anisogramma anomala (Peck) E. Müller with high nut yield, small to medium nut size, high kernel percentage, early nut maturity, excellent kernel quality, and a vigorous tree. ‘PollyO’ is recommended for Oregon’s Willamette Valley and other areas with a similar climate.
